En avril 2010, le centre de tri Tricentris a reçu la certification LEED Or NC par le Conseil du Bâtiment Durable du Canada et devient le quatrième bâtiment à obtenir LEED Or au Québec. 

 

Le projet consistait à construire une nouvelle succursale Tricentris, centre de tri à la fine pointe de la technologie à Terrebonne.  D’une superficie d’environ de 50,000 pieds carrés, Tricentris est devenu le premier centre de tri candidat LEED au Canada.  Ce projet LEED est une réalisation des firmes Campanella & Associés architectes en collaboration avec BT Architecture (expert-conseil LEED).

 

Le nouveau bâtiment industriel rectangulaire se subdivise en trois sections distinctes, soit les bureaux, une zone d’entreposage et une de tri.  Les murs extérieurs des parties entrepôt et tri sont construits en revêtement métallique. Pour la section du noyau central, soit entrée principale et bureaux, une matérialité consiste en un mélange de bloc architectural, de mur rideau, de revêtement de fibrociment, supportés par des colonnes en tuyau de ponceau galvanisées.  Parmi les critères environnementaux très rigoureux de la norme LEED, le projet inclus entre autres, un toit végétal accessible aux utilisateurs pour la partie bureau; une toiture revêtue d’une membrane blanche réfléchissante permettant ainsi de minimiser les amas de chaleur, a été utilisé pour le restant du bâtiment.  Le nouveau centre de tri est aussi équipé d’un mur solaire, de puits de lumière ‘solatube’, et d’un système de chauffage et de climatisation innovateur par géothermie.  La volonté de réutiliser des matériaux de construction recyclés font partie intégrale du projet : des pièces de métaux recyclés cadrent l’ascension de l’escalier principal; des morceaux de verre recyclés ont fait partie du mélange de béton utilisé pour les dalles de plancher de l’entrée principale et des espaces bureaux.  Celles-ci ont ensuite été polies résultant en des planchers vitrifiés et colorés.  L’escalier et les dalles de béton sont, en quelque sorte, symboles de conscience environnementale et forment un hommage visuel et évidant au recyclage.
